Suburb Profiles - Tarneit

  • Tarneit is a suburb located 25 km south-west from Melbourne's CBD.  It is estimated that Tarneit's population is 19,435 in 2011.  Tarneit was established as grazing area, with the first Post Office opening its doors on the 8th March 1888. 

    Tarneit now has a number of housing estates in the area, including, Rose Grange, St James Wood, Reflections, Tarneit Gardens, Moorookyle and Claremont park.  The area has it's own shopping centre, Wyndham Village, located on the corner of Sayers and Derrimut Roads. Shops included in the Village include Coles, Aldi, a Medical Centre, Pharmacy, Clothes and shoe shop and Chineese Massage to name a few. 

    Local schools in the area include Baden Powell College P-9 and Thomas Carr College, with a new high school starting construction now which will cover grades 10-12 to be named Tarneit College. 

    There are a number of parkland areas throughout the housing estates, including walking tracks and excercise equipment along Skeleton Creek, playgrounds and waterways.

    Tarneit is an up and coming area and should definately not be missed.
